If you want to use anything that's updated your best bet is to use Retroarch with the Genesis Gx Plus Core. Like I said I don't know if my reasoning is right, but it worked. Unfortunately there doesn't really seem to be any stand alone Genesis emulators that are updated and Kega Fusion hasn't been updated in over a decade. Fast-forwarding can have sound (since alpha 2), and it is dampened to prevent loud pops (since beta 11) in NDSGBA it could not.
